What's New for 2025?
The 2 Series Gran Coupe technically gets a redesign for 2025, but it's a subtle one from the outside — we're still reminded of older Toyota Corollas when we look at it. The interior has undergone a revolution, however, highlighted by a new widescreen infotainment module housing two 10-inch displays for instrumentation and infotainment. Under the hood, the base 228 and sporty M235 models carry over with broadly similar output numbers, but note that the M235 trades its old eight-speed automatic transmission for a dual-clutch seven-speed unit this time around.

Is the 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe a Good Car?
"The 2 Series GC's primary weakness is...well, you're looking at it. A car in this class shouldn't resemble a Corolla, and that's actually an insult to the current Corolla — we're talking Corollas from 10 years ago. Under the skin, however, this Bimmer is hard to fault, especially in the engine room, where it generally puts its rivals to shame. The interior also impresses with widescreen infotainment that wraps around the driver for a cockpit-like feel."—Ranked #1 out of 3 Subcompact Luxury Sedans

1. 2025 BMW 228i Gran Coupe
- Base Price: $39,600
- MPG Combined: N/A
- Drive Type: Front-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.0-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 241
- Torque: 295 lb-ft
- 0-60: 5.8 sec
- Weight: 3,393 lbs
- Length: 179.2 in
The base front-wheel-drive 228 Gran Coupe has a lot to offer if you can get past its dowdy styling. We wouldn't advise spending much more than this on a 2 Series Gran Coupe, though, as you quickly get into 3 Series territory, and the 3 is a superior car across the board.
2. 2025 BMW 228i xDrive Gran Coupe
- Base Price: $41,600
- MPG Combined: 30
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.0-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 241
- Torque: 295 lb-ft
- 0-60: 5.8 sec
- Weight: 3,534 lbs
- Length: 179.2 in
The all-wheel-drive 228 xDrive Gran Coupe adds traction with no expected fuel-economy penalty to speak of. It's a very sensible upgrade if you plan to drive on slippery roads.
3. 2025 BMW M235i xDrive Gran Coupe
- Base Price: $48,300
- MPG Combined: N/A
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.0-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 7-speed automated manual
- Horsepower: 312
- Torque: 295 lb-ft
- 0-60: 4.7 sec
- Weight: 3,605 lbs
- Length: 179.2 in
The all-wheel-drive M235 xDrive cranks up the power and cracks the 5.0-second 0-60 barrier, putting it in some pretty elite company, yet fuel economy should remain impressive, in typical BMW fashion. But at nearly $50k to start, it's also rather expensive for a subcompact sedan that's not exactly beautiful. We salute the M235's capabilities, but we can't imagine spending that kind of coin on a car that looks like this.
