The entry-level Integra is pretty bare-bones for a luxury car, offering standard 17-inch wheels (versus the 18s on the fancier A-Spec trim) and not a whole lot in terms of notable luxury features. You'll be rocking a front passenger seat without power adjustments, for example, which is the sort of penny-pinching we expect to see from non-luxury brands. It also comes only with the CVT (bummer!), but thanks to those smaller wheels, it does eke out the best fuel economy in the Integra lineup (cool?).

The A-Spec isn't much more than a wheels-and-trim package, upgrading to 18-inch wheels (from the base model's 17s) and losing about 1 mpg in the process while adding some window dressing like stainless-steel pedals and a trunklid spoiler. Like the base Integra, it only comes with the CVT. You might as well spend a few grand more and get the A-Spec w/Technology, which adds a raft of features that you'll probably be glad to have, plus the no-cost option of the preferred manual transmission.

The A-Spec w/Technology 6MT is the only Integra that offers a manual transmission (unless you count the steroidal Type S). For that reason, it's also the Integra spec we recommend, because it's the only way to skip the unsatisfying continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The manual shifter will satisfy purists with its smooth action, but it's annoying that you have to pay a $5k premium over the Integra's base price to get it. Moreover, acceleration from the 1.5T engine is decidedly substandard for a luxury sedan no matter how quickly you shift. On the bright side, that extra $5k does bring a slew of desirable features that luxury-brand shoppers tend to expect.

The A-Spec w/Technology is arguably the only mainstream Integra trim you should consider, given that it adds a boatload of desirable kit (including 16-speaker ELS premium audio, a larger touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, dual-zone automatic climate control, an upgraded driver seat and a power front passenger seat, etc.) for a modest $5k premium over the base model. Our strong preference is the manual-transmission version of this trim — the A-Spec w/Technology 6MT — but if you need to go automatic, the A-Spec w/Technology CVT is the Integra to have.

The four-passenger, manual-only Type S is a different animal from the rest of the Integra lineup. Employing a 2.0-liter, 320-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder that's shared with the Civic Type R, the Type S also boasts 19-inch wheels, a sport-tuned suspension, a limited-slip differential, bigger brakes, flared fenders and other bodywork tweaks, a wider track and a tri-tip exhaust system. That all helps explain why it's so much more expensive than its siblings, though we'd argue that the Type S should actually be quicker than it is for the price. As things stand, it'll run neck-and-neck with a garden-variety Volkswagen GTI, while the upgraded GTI — the Golf R — counters the Acura's mandatory front-wheel-drive layout with standard all-wheel drive at a lower price point.
