Is the 2025 Volvo XC40 a Good SUV?
"The XC40 is one of the oldest entrants in this crowded segment, with a design that dates back to the late 20-teens. Nonetheless, it checks so many of the right boxes that we're not ready to write it off just yet. To wit, its acceleration and fuel economy remain class-competitive, its cargo capacity is relatively generous, its backseat is surprisingly spacious — we could go on. Just make sure you give the touchscreen a thorough test before you buy, because it's the one aspect of the XC40 that's obviously outdated compared to the segment's best."—Ranked #4 out of 12 Subcompact Luxury SUVs

The single-spec XC40 is not only a competitive subcompact luxury SUV, it's also a strong competitor for the electric version of this vehicle, the XC40 Recharge, which starts nearly $12k higher. The gasoline XC40 accelerates more quickly than the base XC40 Recharge and can tow almost twice as much, and it even gets 30 mpg on the highway. It's got more ground clearance, too. That adds up to a decent argument for postponing the EV switch for a few more years. But we're not saying the gas-powered XC40 is a slam-dunk choice in its segment; on the contrary, it's been around for more than half a decade while its rivals have since freshened up. From its smallish, old-feeling touchscreen to its merely average four-cylinder powertrain, the XC40 frankly struggles to separate itself from the pack aside from its distinctively handsome styling.
