The new Tacoma offers a configuration for just about everyone, and that's a recipe we can heartily endorse. Sure, it'd be nice if the Access Cab were still available, or at least if the XtraCab weren't automatic-only and limited to the lowest trim levels. But at the end of the day, there are a lot of pluses here and very few minuses. This fresh Taco won't be loosening its grip on the midsize truck segment anytime soon. ⛐ md
2024 Toyota Tacoma Exterior Photos

Do you really need the range-topping TRD Pro? Maybe not, given that you can get the highly capable Tacoma TRD Off-Road seen here for literally $21k less to start — with a manual transmission, no less, which the Pro doesn't offer. (Photo: Toyota)

The dapper TRD Sport is for those who plan to have most of their adventures on paved surfaces. We can't unsee that black plastic air dam below the front fascia, though; stowing that thing in the corner of the garage should be mod #1. (Photo: Toyota)

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma SR XtraCab with steelies is the closest thing in the Tacoma lineup to the regular-cab Toyota trucks of yore. After processing the shock and awe of the pricier Tacoma trims, this back-to-basics build might seem refreshing. Shame you can't swap in the higher-output 2.4T engine. (Photo: Toyota)

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner — a long-bed two-seater, like every Tacoma XtraCab — offers an intriguing blend of features, pairing extra ground clearance, underbody protection and a locking rear differential with the higher-output 2.4T engine and rear-wheel drive. (Photo: Toyota)

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma is a lengthy vehicle with the Double Cab/Long Bed body style. The SR5 trim shown here lacks the chunky tires needed to make the stretched body look proportional. (Photo: Toyota)

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro's long list of off-roady upgrades includes 33-inch tires and Fox internal-bypass shocks with rear remote reservoirs. (Photo: Toyota)

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma Limited is where the standard luxury features ramp up. In addition to the full 14-inch touchscreen, you get a 10-speaker JBL stereo and a whole lot more. (Photo: Toyota)

The fancier off-road versions get all the press, but the truth is that even the mainstream 2024 Tacoma SR5 has huge ground clearance for a factory truck. It's more Tacoma than most people will ever need, even if the wheels do look too small. (Photo: Toyota)

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner looks just right to us from this angle. It's the only off-road-centric variant of the Tacoma with an XtraCab; all the other off-roaders are Double Cabs. Being an XtraCab, the PreRunner is outfitted with rear leaf springs (which you can see in the photo), not the new rear coil-spring suspension. (Photo: Toyota)

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro's coolness and capabilities are not in question. Its $63,900 base MSRP, on the other hand, will inevitably raise some eyebrows. (Photo: Toyota)

Available only with the hybrid powertrain, the 2024 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter is aimed at the overlanding crowd, boasting name-brand aftermarket equipment like Old Man Emu shocks and offering an optional long bed. (Photo: Toyota)

The Tacoma's i-Force Max hybrid powertrain isn't much to look at, but it packs a 326 hp/465 lb-ft wallop while also delivering up to 24 mpg combined. (Photo: Toyota)

Although any 2024 Tacoma could go around kicking up dirt like this, the TRD Pro looks extra rad doing it. (Photo: Toyota)
2024 Toyota Tacoma Interior Photos

The Tacoma Limited gets a 14-inch central touchscreen that's optional on some of the lesser trims, which utilize an 8-inch touchscreen by default. The bigger screen's interface is nicely done, but we'd rather not have a full-fledged computer monitor looming above the dashboard. (Photo: Toyota)

Stuffed into a much larger plastic housing atop the dashboard, the Tacoma's entry-level 8-inch touchscreen will eternally remind you that you didn't spring for the 14-incher. We might actually prefer the 8-incher if it were fully integrated into the dashboard like the previous-generation Tacoma's touchscreen. (Photo: Toyota)

Standard from the PreRunner trim on up, the 2024 Tacoma's 12.3-inch digital instrument panel goes a long way toward making the interior feel contemporary, although we're guessing a lot of truck fans feel just fine about analog gauges. (Photo: Toyota)

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab's rear quarters aren't what we'd call spacious, but we much prefer this snugness to a larger cabin that would stretch out the Tacoma's length even more. By the way, since the XtraCab (unlike its Access Cab predecessor) doesn't have a backseat, this is your only option if you want more than two seats in your Tacoma. (Photo: Toyota)

Standard on the Limited and higher trims, the Tacoma's 10-speaker JBL audio system includes a removable Bluetooth center speaker. Just promise you won't take it hiking and annoy everyone else on the trail. (Photo: Toyota)

Submitted as proof that the 2024 Toyota Tacoma does indeed offer a manual transmission, unlike virtually all of its rivals. Yes, the redline drops by 900 rpm, and we don't care. Sign us up. (Photo: Toyota)

Lest you worry that the Tacoma's large 14-inch touchscreen meant the death of physical climate controls, you can see here that knobs and buttons live on. (Photo: Toyota)

Looking like something an astronaut might strap on before stepping into space, the Tacoma TRD Pro's exclusive IsoDynamic Performance front seats use what Toyota calls an "air-over-oil shock absorber system." The idea is that each seat can move vertically and laterally at the same time, which is said to minimize body movement and stabilize spine alignment. (Photo: Toyota)

We'd argue that the TRD Pro's interior is the best-looking in the Tacoma lineup, especially with those crazy IsoDynamic front seats wrapped in Cockpit Red SofTex upholstery. (Photo: Toyota)
