1. 2024 Porsche 718 Boxster Base (2.0T Manual)
- Base Price: $70,400
- MPG Combined: 22
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.0-liter flat-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 6-speed manual
- Horsepower: 300
- Torque: 280 lb-ft
- 0-60: 4.9 sec
- Weight: 3,036 lbs
- Length: 172.4 in
The Boxster still starts out with a six-speed manual transmission, though we'd guess its days are numbered. Note that the cargo capacity is the sum of the rear trunk and the front trunk (frunk), which can hold, respectively, 4.4 cubic feet and 5.3 cubic feet of stuff.
2. 2024 Porsche 718 Boxster Base (2.0T Automatic)
- Base Price: $73,610
- MPG Combined: 24
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.0-liter flat-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 7-speed automated manual
- Horsepower: 300
- Torque: 280 lb-ft
- 0-60: 4.7 sec
- Weight: 3,097 lbs
- Length: 172.4 in
Adding Porsche's PDK automated manual transmission ($3,210) improves fuel economy significantly, which is a nice fringe benefit if you didn't want to shift your own gears anyway.
3. 2024 Porsche 718 Boxster S (2.5T Manual)
- Base Price: $82,400
- MPG Combined: 21
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.5-liter flat-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 6-speed manual
- Horsepower: 350
- Torque: 309 lb-ft
- 0-60: 4.4 sec
- Weight: 3,086 lbs
- Length: 172.4 in
Upgrading to the Boxster S gets you an extra half-liter of engine displacement and corresponding bumps in power and torque. It will always and forever be a bummer, though, that Porsche decided years ago to stop making six-cylinder power standard across the Boxster line. The Boxster S engine reminds us too much of that other maker of turbocharged flat-4 engines: Subaru.
4. 2024 Porsche 718 Boxster S (2.5T Automatic)
- Base Price: $85,610
- MPG Combined: 22
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.5-liter flat-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 7-speed automated manual
- Horsepower: 350
- Torque: 309 lb-ft
- 0-60: 4.2 sec
- Weight: 3,148 lbs
- Length: 172.4 in
Unlike the base Boxster PDK, the Boxster S PDK doesn't get much of a bump in fuel economy relative to its stick-shift counterpart. Not that anyone's really counting, but in case you're a "save the manuals" type, it's nice to know you won't be far behind in efficiency.
5. 2024 Porsche 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 (Manual)
- Base Price: $97,300
- MPG Combined: 19
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 4.0-liter flat-6
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 6-speed manual
- Horsepower: 394
- Torque: 309 lb-ft
- 0-60: 4.3 sec
- Weight: 3,172 lbs
- Length: 172.9 in
Don't judge the manual 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 by its 0-60 time, which is just a tenth of a second quicker than that of the Boxster S manual. With its naturally aspirated flat-6 putting out nearly 400 horsepower, the GTS 4.0 is a radically different drive and arguably a bargain even at its lofty asking price.
6. 2024 Porsche 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 (Automatic)
- Base Price: $101,030
- MPG Combined: 21
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 4.0-liter flat-6
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 7-speed automated manual
- Horsepower: 394
- Torque: 317 lb-ft
- 0-60: 3.8 sec
- Weight: 3,241 lbs
- Length: 172.9 in
Adding PDK ($3,730 in the GTS 4.0's case) chops a full half-second off the 0-60 sprint, but it's not just the transmission doing that work — it's also the Sport Chrono package, which comes standard and includes launch control. If launch control's not activated, the difference is probably more like 0.2-0.3 second. Of course, this decision is more about feel than cold hard numbers, but while we're on the stats, we should mention that PDK also unlocks an extra 8 lb-ft of torque compared to the manual.
7. 2024 Porsche 718 Spyder RS (4.0 Automatic)
- Base Price: $160,700
- MPG Combined: 16
- Drive Type: Rear-wheel drive
- Engine: 4.0-liter flat-6
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 7-speed automated manual
- Horsepower: 493
- Torque: 331 lb-ft
- 0-60: 3.2 sec
- Weight: 3,214 lbs
- Length: 173.9 in
The 718 Spyder RS is a clear case of overkill, but that doesn't mean it won't show you a great time. While the lack of a manual transmission will rankle some would-be buyers (that's why we'd be delighted to have the 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 instead), there's no arguing with the Spyder's awe-inspiring acceleration, which comes courtesy of the 911 GT3-spec engine and its screaming 9,000-rpm redline.
