1. 2024 Mercedes-Benz G550 (4.0T Four-Wheel Drive)
- Base Price: $143,000
- MPG Combined: 14
- Drive Type: Four-wheel drive
- Engine: 4.0-liter V8
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 9-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 416
- Torque: 450 lb-ft
- 0-60: 5.6 sec
- Length: 189.7 in
- Towing Capacity: 7,000 lbs
Enjoy the V8 while you can — the standard G-Wagen will be shifting to inline-6 power for 2025. Fuel economy with the V8 is abysmal, of course, but at least Benz saw fit to install an extra-large 26.4-gallon gas tank.
2. 2024 Mercedes-Benz AMG G63 (4.0T Four-Wheel Drive)
- Base Price: $183,000
- MPG Combined: 14
- Drive Type: Four-wheel drive
- Engine: 4.0-liter V8
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 9-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 577
- Torque: 627 lb-ft
- 0-60: 4.5 sec
- Weight: 5,842 lbs
- Length: 191.9 in
- Towing Capacity: 7,000 lbs
As much as Mercedes would like you to think of AMG as a separate sub-brand, it's plain to see that the AMG G63 uses largely the same engine as the regular G550. They're both 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8s, and while only the G63's "M177" version is hand-built, the G550's "M176" is very similar. The biggest difference is that Benz cranks up the boost for AMG duty, so you do get a lot more horsepower and torque if you go AMG.
