What's New for 2025?
A newly optional Black Edition package adds gloss black exterior trim and 20-inch wheels, plus red interior stitching and red accent lighting. The Pilot is otherwise unchanged, though that didn't stop Honda from raising the base price by more than $3k this year.

Is the 2025 Honda Pilot a Good SUV?
"The Pilot is one of the few midsize SUVs that still use a conventional V6 engine rather than a downsized four-cylinder, which explains why its fuel economy is a tick or two behind the segment's best. But the Pilot checks most of the boxes otherwise, with the added bonus of Honda's excellent resale value. We'd happily take a slight penalty at the pump to have the Pilot's strong acceleration, by the way. There are some turbo four-cylinder engines in this class that struggle to keep up with the Honda's naturally aspirated V6."—Ranked #6 out of 15 Midsize 3-Row SUVs
Which 2025 Honda Pilot Should I Buy?
MotorDonkey's proprietary vehicle data identifies every significant version of each model so that you can compare and decide. Ordered by price from low to high, here are the versions of the 2025 Honda Pilot that you need to be aware of, along with our expert analysis and recommendations.
1. 2025 Honda Pilot 3.5 Front-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $40,200
- MPG Combined: 22
- Drive Type: Front-wheel drive
- Engine: 3.5-liter V6
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 10-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 285
- Torque: 262 lb-ft
- Weight: 4,030 lbs
- Length: 199.9 in
- Towing Capacity: 3,500 lbs
In case you're feeling any doubt about the relationship between the Pilot and the Acura MDX, the fact that they share the same 113.8-inch wheelbase should help clear things up. The three-row Pilot even has the corporate Honda/Acura 10-speed automatic, whereas the two-row Passport uses a different 9-speed unit. Anyway, the front-drive Pilot is a nice value at about $10k less than the MDX to start.
2. 2025 Honda Pilot 3.5 All-Wheel Drive
- Base Price: $42,300
- MPG Combined: 21
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 3.5-liter V6
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: 10-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 285
- Torque: 262 lb-ft
- 0-60: 7.2 sec
- Weight: 4,202 lbs
- Length: 199.9 in
- Towing Capacity: 5,000 lbs
Adding all-wheel drive to the Pilot costs a couple grand but doesn't affect the fuel economy much — unless you get the off-road-oriented TrailSport, that is, in which case you'll see a more significant drop to 20 mpg combined (18 city/23 highway).
