FAST FACTS
2025 Honda CR-V Fuel Cell
Starts at $50,000
Pros
- It's the only way to get a CR-V with plug-in electric driving capability
- Might make sense if you live near a hydrogen fueling station
Cons
- Slower and pricier and less capacious than the regular CR-V
- Only comes with front-wheel drive
- EV mode shuts itself off at more than light throttle
- Makes zero sense if you don't live near a hydrogen fueling station
What's New for 2025?
The CR-V Fuel Cell debuts this year with a novel "plug-in hydrogen" powertrain, by which we mean there's a plug-in battery pack that can provide the energy on its own, and then there are twin hydrogen tanks that back the battery up, just like the gas tank backs up the battery in a plug-in hybrid. Intrigued? Don't get your hopes up unless you live in California and don't mind leasing.
