Is the 2025 Ford Escape Plug-In Hybrid a Good SUV?
"The Escape PHEV's weakness is its 210-horsepower output, which is only 18 hp better than the regular Escape Hybrid. Otherwise, it comes up aces, from its 37 miles of all-electric range to its 40-mpg rating when EV mode shuts off. Just be aware that you can only get the plug-in Escape with front-wheel drive. If that's a deal-breaker, consider the Lincoln Corsair PHEV, which is mechanically similar but comes standard with AWD."—Ranked #6 out of 9 Compact Plug-In-Hybrid SUVs
Which 2025 Ford Escape Plug-In Hybrid Should I Buy?
MotorDonkey's proprietary vehicle data identifies every significant version of each model so that you can compare and decide. There's only one standalone version of the 2025 Ford Escape Plug-In Hybrid, and here it is, along with our expert analysis and recommendations.
2025 Ford Escape Plug-In Hybrid
- Base Price: $38,400
- EV Range: 37 mi
- MPG Combined: 40
- Drive Type: Front-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.5-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Naturally aspirated
- Transmission: CVT
- Horsepower: 210
- Torque: N/A
- 0-60: 7.7 sec
- Weight: 3,904 lbs
- Length: 180.1 in
- Towing Capacity: 1,500 lbs
The Escape Plug-In Hybrid offers a useful (by PHEV standards) 37 miles of electric range, but otherwise there's not much to see here. Acceleration is unimpressive, which is due in part to the fact that the PHEV gear adds hundreds of pounds. You can only get the PHEV with front-wheel drive, whereas the regular hybrid has optional all-wheel drive. Oh yeah, and the PHEV is easily the most expensive Escape variant. We just can't, er, escape the conclusion that the 2.0T is head and shoulders above the rest of the Escapes in terms of value and all-around talent.
