Is the 2025 Dodge Hornet a Good SUV?
"The Hornet takes a novel approach, providing a lot of standard horsepower (268 hp, to be exact) in a segment where most entrants aren't even close to 200. But it also rides stiffly and feels cramped inside, and the starting price is unusually high. Like its Alfa Romeo Tonale twin, the Hornet is additionally offered as a plug-in hybrid with a useful 33 miles of electric range, but the price goes up another $10k for that version."—Ranked #15 out of 18 Subcompact SUVs
Which 2025 Dodge Hornet Should I Buy?
MotorDonkey's proprietary vehicle data identifies every significant version of each model so that you can compare and decide. Ordered by price from low to high, here are the versions of the 2025 Dodge Hornet that you need to be aware of, along with our expert analysis and recommendations.
1. 2025 Dodge Hornet GT (2.0T All-Wheel Drive)
- Base Price: $29,995
- MPG Combined: 24
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 2.0-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 9-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 268
- Torque: 295 lb-ft
- 0-60: 5.7 sec
- Weight: 3,715 lbs
- Length: 178.0 in
- Towing Capacity: 2,000 lbs
This turbocharged all-wheel-drive setup is the only Hornet specification you can buy, unless you want the R/T plug-in hybrid. There's plenty of punch from the 2.0T engine, but we're guessing many small-SUV shoppers would like to have better fuel economy.
2. 2025 Dodge Hornet R/T (1.3T Plug-In Hybrid)
- Base Price: $41,645
- MPG Combined: 29
- EV Range: 33 mi
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 1.3-liter inline-4
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 6-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 288
- Torque: 383 lb-ft
- 0-60: 5.5 sec
- Weight: 4,140 lbs
- Length: 178.0 in
- Towing Capacity: 2,000 lbs
The plug-in-hybrid Hornet R/T's claim to fame is that 33-mile electric driving range. That's mileage you can really use — if you keep your Hornet PHEV plugged in when you're not using it, you could conceivably go months between gas tank refills. Aside from that aspect, the base Hornet GT is a better value. The R/T costs $10k more and provides essentially the same acceleration.
