Man, do we miss the Malibu's formerly optional 2.0T engine, which made 250 horsepower and came with a pleasant nine-speed automatic. Chevy dropped it last year, leaving the Malibu defenseless against any rival with a half-decent powertrain. The 1.5T/CVT combo is appliance-grade stuff — it'll get you from A to B, but there's no joy or sense of sophistication here.
