Another day, another "SUV coupe" that's hard to make a case for. You know what we're going to say: The X5 xDrive40i is thousands cheaper and more spacious inside. That won't matter if you're sold on the X6's styling, but we had to say it anyway.
2. 2024 BMW X6 M60i xDrive (4.4T All-Wheel Drive)
- Base Price: $93,600
- MPG Combined: 19
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 4.4-liter V8
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 523
- Torque: 553 lb-ft
- 0-60: 4.2 sec
- Weight: 5,300 lbs
- Length: 195.0 in
- Towing Capacity: 7,200 lbs
The V8-powered X6 M60i raises our eyebrows for two reasons. First, it's massively more expensive than the X6 xdrive40i with its excellent turbocharged inline-6, though we'll grant that the V8 delivers a lot more oomph. Second, it's almost $5k more expensive than the mechanically identical X5 M60i, which is more practical. But listen, we've been pooh-poohing the X6 for many years and it keeps coming back for more, so BMW has clearly found plenty of customers for this formula. Value and versatility concerns aside, by the way, this vehicle drives stunningly well.
3. 2024 BMW X6 M Competition
- Base Price: $127,200
- MPG Combined: 15
- Drive Type: All-wheel drive
- Engine: 4.4-liter V8
- Aspiration: Turbocharged
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Horsepower: 617
- Torque: 553 lb-ft
- 0-60: 3.7 sec
- Weight: 5,454 lbs
- Length: 195.0 in
- Towing Capacity: 7,200 lbs
The X6 M wouldn't pass any value or versatility tests we could come up with, but we suspect that's not the point. If you're interested in this rig, you're not really thinking about cost versus rivals, or about how much roomier the X5's interior is. Chances are, you just think the car looks cool and you like how insanely fast it is. We can appreciate that.
